Each persona in the Family Search Family Tree is uniquely identified by an eight-character ID (such as KT7L-MGG). We refer to a persona (rather than a person) because two descendants of a common ancestor might independently create a persona for him or her; leading to duplicate personas that will later need to be merged. The merged persona will retain one of the ID and the other ID will be discarded and all references to it automatically replaced with the other.
