Death and Burial
Family historians can learn much about the lives of their ancestors from the records created at their death. After the introduction of civil registration in the mid-nineteenth century, all deaths were centrally recorded. Before that time, most burials were recorded in parish records.
In the last century, you may also find one or more newspaper notices of the funeral, records kept by the undertaker and/or the cemetery, and if you are fortunate a published obituary. Each of these can add pieces of information that build up to a complete picture. |
