Ancestry offers personal subscriptions to use different combinations of the datasets to which it has the rights in different countries and at different prices.
In addition it has a Library Edition to which libraries and similar organisations can subscribe and allow members to use while they are on the premises. The Library Edition is similar too, but not identical with, the products available to the highest paid tier of personal subscriptions. We can use Ancestry Library Edition (free) on any of the PCs in the Family History area at Strathpine. Similarly you can use the same software when visiting the State Library of Queensland at South Bank. It is usually not permitted to access this software from a home computer. During the current requirements for social isolation and the closure of public buildings, Ancestry is allowing some institutions that have Library Edition access to permit members to use that from their home. You can now get free access through the MBR Library website, or NLA or SLQ! |
