Once were Germans
The fact that modern Germany is now smaller in area than its previous instances means that the records created about ancestors who we consider to have been German might now be located in other countries. That is particularly the case for residents of parts of the former Prussia. The locations formerly called Posen, Pommern and Silesia now form parts of Poland and the Czech Republic. The Kingdom of Prussia also extended north into areas that have now been returned to Denmark.
